The new MTV is finally done and after 3 days of shooting for Director Pancho Esguerra, the new Taken By Cars video is ready for you to view. We spent a few days color grading with apple color and it is becoming one of our favorite tools in the post production process. The control over color is simple and effective and tracking abilities really help fix and add a level of polish that we could not achieve before on a mac desktop (at least at a reasonable price).
It takes a few viewings to really appreciate the great ideas that are communicated in the video. The more you watch it the better it becomes. Enjoy another Pancho Esguerra MTV treat.

The new studio is slowly being decorated with much help from family and friends. Making use of old furniture and refurbishing them, the feel of the space is becoming the creative space we have always wanted. I will be posting updates as the evolution happens. Check out out flickr to see the photos.

We have been busy compiling our new reel and finally had the time to incorporate some 3D into our work flow. This is a sample of what we have in mind for the opening. Our reel should be up in the next week so come by and check it out. Our Blue Rain site has been updated as well and all our recent projects can be viewed.

Its the first… first time to direct an MTV and well… it was fun:) I have always played the supporting role in the productions but this directing thing is cool. We worked with a budget constraint ( the usual for local MTVs and the labels want to bring the budgets down more… haha) but the contribution of so many made it possible. I give props to the band their energy made my job easier and the great video wall buy the Blue Rain boys really made the visuals amazing.
I was worried straight performance would not be enough, but it was! I’m glad we were able to tie in the feel of the album cover to the treatment just to make it a real Anglo video.
Before the shoot I really wanted to make use of Apple’s Color app and I made it a point to use it for the grade and it really added the final polish i wanted. I plan to make it a regular part of our workflow now. Its not a Spirt 2k or Resolve but for the rest of us, it is miles away from the usual FCP grade. Hoping to do more of this and next time add a more narrative aspect to the videos.
Overall mission accomplished.

This is is another great MTV from Pancho Esguerra who has “gone back to his roots” with this installment of a simple and well told story done the Esguerra way. Many simple details took a lot of time form the prod design to the text that was used and the tracking of simple things in post. Its in the details and this “lomoish” treatment really set he mood for this story of love and confusion with an unexpected ending.

A fun project that we did for Nike that was made up if stills something we don’t usually get to do. 8 talents to shoot in one day! Many thanks to Kelvin Uy our photographer who took over 1000 shots. The graphic design motion graphic combination is the norm these days but we have been wanting to create a video that was created primarily in photoshop (and after effects) and had heavy graphic design elements. We decided that we needed more motion than the single shots would give us so we did some rapid fire sequences that turned out surprisingly well. We are all in on a Sunday working on our latest MTV for Bamboo. This is the third video that we have had a chance to work on with the band and it is going to have a very “broadway MTV” feel which will be interesting to see once we get it out. The video is Directed by Pancho Esguerra and the new Springboard creative group which he is a part of. I never thought that we would have dancing in one of our rock videos but hey it works and the dancing group did a great job.
The shoot was in a studio, which is my preferred location for shoots, and the airconditioning kept everyone sane. The dancers were up first and they got everyones attention with their outfits. Once they stated dancing the magic began. The band came in after we did most of the inital dancing parts and there were extensive shots of Bamboo with and his “singing th the rain” segment which really adds character to the video.
At this point we are finalizing the clips then everything will be passing through AE for all the comping. Here goes!
